Reed City, MI – The Reed City Public Library is pleased to announce its participation in MeLCat interlibrary loan service.  MeLCat offers library patrons simple and convenient Web-based access to a collective catalog of holdings for the many participating libraries.

"MeLCat gives libraries a valuable tool to enhance the level of service they offer and to better support patrons’ recreation, information and learning needs," said State Librarian Nancy Robertson.  "It's a cost-effective way to give Michigan residents in all corners of the state access to more resources than any single library can provide."

“There is no charge for this extremely quick interlibrary loan service.  It will expand access to book, audio and video formats greatly. We have pamphlets available to help new users.  Patrons will love this service!” said Heather Symon, Director of the Reed City Public Library.

MeLCat allows registered patrons at participating libraries to search, locate and request items from a comprehensive catalog, which features combined holdings of participating libraries around the state. Patrons order items through MeLCat at http://mel.org and items can be delivered to a patron’s local library, often within a week.  Patrons can place their requests from their homes, schools, businesses, their Library or any other location with Internet service.  The MeLCat service provides free access to literally millions of items, which also includes important local history materials.

MeLCat is a service offered through the Michigan eLibrary (http://mel.org), the virtual library of Michigan.  The Library of Michigan developed this virtual library with the participation of Michigan Libraries.
