SRP off to Flying Start

Story about the Summer Reading Program Kick off Event.
SRP off to Flying Start

The Reed City Public Library Summer Reading Program Kickoff was held this past Saturday, June 22, 2013.  We had 39 children register at the Event and then have had 90+ register at the Library for combined registrations of over 129.  We expect more registrations in the next several weeks and are at or beyond pace for participation from last year.

At our Kickoff Event, we had a variety of snacks and games such as a water balloon toss, obstacle course and beanbag toss. Our feature entertainment this year was a presentation by Rebecca Lessard of Wings of Wonder, a non-profit raptor rehabilitation facility located in Empire, Michigan.  We have had a lot of extremely positive comments on that presenter and have received a lot of thank you's for bringing her in for our Kickoff.

Ms. Lessard brought a miniature Saw Whet owl, a red-tailed hawk, an American Kestrel and the crowd favorite Doolin, the playful Turkey Vulture.  All ages seemed to love the birds and the presenter was a top-notch educator and shared many humorous stories about the birds. You could visit the website at to learn more.

It has become somewhat of a tradition to end our Kickoff event with a water balloon fight and we always have a lot of fun with that battle.

We want to thank the many people who attended and made this a fun event to start the Reed City Public Library's Summer Reading Program!

Children may still register for the Summer Reading Program.
