Modern Treasure Hunt

The Library was able offer a Special Family Summer Reading Program, "Getting Started: Geocaching 101" with help from guest facilitator and Reed City resident, Lonnie Graham.  Lonnie was able to educate attendees on the how-to's of geocaching, the equipment needed and share some of his own fun experiences.  This activity could be considered modern-day treasure hunting on a small scale and a great family activity that encourages exploration and enjoyment of the lovely Michigan out-of-doors!  Folks learned that they could use any GPS (even a phone with the correct app!) to locate "caches" at given geographic coordinates form the Internet and the rules to follow for the activity.

Though there was a small group in attendance, there were many good questions! Many thanks to Lonnie and Barb Graham for preparation and facilitation of this interesting program!

If you or your family is interested in learning more about Geocaching, please ask for one of Lonnie's Power Point handouts and/ or visit
