A group of twenty-three individuals were able to tour the former State hospital on Friday, April 11, 2014 on an "Intensive Tour" at a cost of
$
22 per person. The tour included exploration of various buildings in
various states of rehabilitation, tunnels connecting the buildings and
touring the grounds and businesses in the Grand Traverse Commons. The
Minervini Group, which has developed the site into commercial properties
and brought many businesses in, has worked to keep the history of the
structures alive and many of the architectural details that makes the
property so unique. This tour was awe-inspiring and a truly unique
educational opportunity made possible by transportation sponsored by the
Ferris State University Center for Teaching and Learning.
