Tuesday, February 17, 2014-“Alaska Did This to Me”

Many thanks to Brooke Whipple for her Tuesday, February 17, 2015 presentation themed “Alaska Did This to Me!” at the Reed City Area District Library!  We had a number of teens and adults join us for this light-hearted presentation on Alaskan living.

Brooke has cumulatively lived in Alaska for more than fifteen years and has had experiences a lot of people only dream about!  She shared her experience living on the furthermost point on the Aleutian Peninsula, doing a winter garden, providing rafting tours and being a fishing guide on the Yukon River and even living without running water for over ten years!

Brooke is the author of two books, The Frozen Toe Guide to Real Alaskin Livin’ and Alaska did this to me.  She also made a documentary of her experience running the grueling Mount Marathon Race titled “The Mount Marathon Experience.”

When she began her Alaskan adventure years ago, she arrived with nothing more than a backpack and $ 200!  Thanks to Brooke for inspiring us all and providing a great presentation despite some technical difficulties that evening.

Brooke is not only a local author, but a local business owner.  Please visit if you are interested in learning about her u-pick seasonal Flower Bucket Farm.

Please stop in or call the Library at (231) 832-2131 if you are interested in checking out Brooke’s books or DVD.
