Reed City Area District Library
The first library in Reed City was located in the front room of Mrs. Hall at 133 West Slosson in the 1890s. Over the past 130 years, the library has evolved from that tiny room to a formally established district library that serves 5 local municpalities. The library exists to provide a community space for accessible information and entertainment, to ecourage life long learning, and to promote literacy in children, teens, and adults!

The library is home to 19,000 materials including books, books on CD, graphic novels, magazines, and DVDs with new matierals regularly added to the collection. In addition, we have thousands of e-resources for our patrons, including e-books and audiobooks with Libby and video streaming (movies and TV) with Kanopy.
Every year, the Library hosts the Summer Reading Program to encourage reading during the summer months. This program is offered for children, teens, and adults! Participants have chances to win prizes like gift cards, squishmellows, and other fun items. The library has additional programming throughout the year that you won't find anywhere else in town, including musical performances, animal exhibits, and a special visit from Santa every holiday season.
The library provides free library cards to all residents within Reed City and the townships of Cedar, Green Charter, Lincoln, and Richmond with cards available to all others for a $45 fee. An outlined map of the townships we service is available below.
Employees at RCAPS can get a free card regardless of their home address with staff ID. Students attending school in Reed City (RCAPS) can get a card for free regardless of their home address with a presentable student ID and a parent or guardian present.

The public is welcome to utilize print and electronic reference resources, access the internet, view Library materials, or register for one of the Library's varying programs. You do not need a library card to use computers or get seeds from the seed library, only to check out library materials. Stop by front desk if you're interested in a library card!

Our friendly and professional staff are knowledgeable and eager to help you. We look forward to seeing you at the library!
