In order to get a library card at the Reed City Area District Library, you must be over the age of 16 and have a valid State ID or Driver's License that shows you live within one of our contracting locations of the City of Reed City, Richmond Township, Lincoln Township, Green Charter Township, or Cedar Township! Students and employees of the RCAPS may get a card free of charge with their student ID regardless of where they are located. You must apply for a library card in person at this time. If your ID does not match your current residency in one of our contracting townships then you must provide 2 proof of residency forms (utility bill/mortgage/lease) when applying for a resident card. A non-resident card is available for those who live outside of our contracted locations, the cost of the card is $45 a year.

To renew a book or other items checked out from the library, you can text us at 231-624-8052 or call during regular business hours at 231-832-2131. There is one week grace period for late returns if we are unable to renew an item. Please have your account information ready for the clerks to assist you.

The library is open Monday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Tuesday from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, Wednesday to Friday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, and every second Saturday of the month from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

The library is located at 829 S Chestnut Street next to the State Police Post and across the road from the Dollar General Market.

The library offers print, scan, and fax services at the circulation desk to everyone in the community whether they have a library card or not. Printing costs $0.25 per side for black and white pages and $0.50 per side for color pages. Faxing costs $0.50 per page. Scanning to a hard drive is free, but we cannot send documents from the printer to your email at this time. There is a print limit of 75 pages a day and due to system limitations, we will only scan 75 pages to a usb at a time.

The library appreciates any support, if you're interested in volunteering, the library has a Friends of the Library group where you can have hands on experience running a book sale, sorting donations, and participating in the local Farmer's Market. The Friends directly support the library itself and the library staff via fundraising events and volunteer support. We do have volunteer opportunities directly in the library but they are limited at this time. Yes, we have a seed library available to everyone in the community regardless of if they are a cardholder. Limit is 20 seed packets a season per family.
